World Centre of the Catalan donkey
We have been fighting for 50 years to preserve the native breed of Catalan donkey which is considered the best in the world.

Fuives is the greatest reserve of Catalan donkeys worldwide. It’s located in Berguedà region, in the municipal borough of Olvan. Our zoological centre is qualified as protected area of countryside and nature reserve in a typical family’s ancestral house prior to 10th century.
Joan Gassó noticed the risk suffered by the native breed donkey, the Catalan donkey. He began to look for the few existing specimens, thus the zoological centre has become what we have today, with more than one hundred of pure-bred donkeys.
Our aim is spreading the knowledge of this native breed to avoid their extinction since it’s part of our Catalan genetic heritage.

In fact, if you don’t know them, you can think they’re animals to entertain young and old, in which they’re great experts, but other than that they have other roles like: ecological agriculture and viniculture, donkey therapy sessions, carriage guides, natural cosmetics… and even more.
